what is ireland like

April 8, 2009 by admin

The question what is Ireland like ? is probably best answered through visitor surveys. Such a survey was conducted in 2007. Although the survey doesn’t take into account the decline in confidence and lower visitor numbers brought on by the recession, it does poll visitors about their trip to Ireland and results in some interesting reading. It is a useful tool to see how Ireland is seen by people visiting from overseas and might help those of you wishing to travel to Ireland to understand how other people like you view it.

The visitor survey helps us to objectively answer the question “what is ireland like

The main objectives of the survey were to:

a. Investigate the main reasons for visiting Ireland and why someone would decide to holiday in Ireland.
b. Find out how satisifed were people with their visit.
c. Was Ireland what people expected ?
d. Advantages and disadvantages of Ireland as a place to holiday.
e. How people researched for their trip to Ireland.

A cross section of overseas holidaymakers to Ireland, from the main visitor countries (USA, England etc.) were surveyed. All Irish sea and air departure points were used as points of survey. People surveyed were screened to ensure that the main purpose of their visit was to visit Ireland, that they were not Irish born or were not travelling with anyone who was born in Ireland and further that they spent at least one overnight in Ireland.

The survey took place between june and september 2007. Just under 8000 individuals took part and just over 40% completed the survey.
